What this tool is for
Looks up who is responsible for an address: the registry record for the network it belongs to, the allocation range, and any reverse DNS name. This is the honest version of an IP lookup. It tells you which organisation holds the block, not who was sitting at a keyboard. This is one of the few tools here that needs a server, because the question is about the internet rather than about your data. The request is made from our server, rate limited, and nothing you enter is stored.
How to use it
- Enter a public IPv4 or IPv6 address.
- Read the registry data: network name, organisation, country and range.
- Check the reverse DNS name, which often names the hosting provider.
Frequently asked questions
Can I find a person from an IP address?
No. The registry shows the organisation holding the block, usually an ISP or a hosting company. Linking an address to a subscriber requires a legal request to that provider.
How accurate is the country?
The registry country is where the block is registered, which is often right and sometimes far off, especially for large international providers and for VPN exits.
