What this tool is for

The reason a 1 TB drive shows up as 931 GB is that two different systems share similar names: decimal units count in powers of 1000, binary units in powers of 1024. This converter shows both at once so the discrepancy stops being mysterious.

How to use it

  1. Enter a size in any unit.
  2. Compare the decimal (KB, MB, GB) and binary (KiB, MiB, GiB) columns.
  3. Copy the value you need.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my 1 TB drive show 931 GB?

The manufacturer counts 1 TB as a trillion bytes. Windows divides by 1024 three times and labels the result GB, when strictly it is showing GiB. Same bytes, different arithmetic and a misleading label.

KB or KiB?

KB means 1000 bytes and KiB means 1024. The distinction is formally correct and widely ignored, which is exactly why both are shown here.
