Frequently asked questions
How long should a title be?
Google truncates by pixel width, not character count, at roughly 580 pixels on desktop. That is about 60 characters in practice, less if the title is full of wide letters. The preview here measures the actual width.
Do meta keywords still matter?
No. Google has ignored the keywords tag since 2009 and says so publicly. It is not included here for that reason.
Does the description affect ranking?
Not directly, but it affects click-through rate, and a page nobody clicks does not hold its position for long. Write it as ad copy, not as a summary.
