Frequently asked questions

Why is the PNG bigger than the WebP?

Because WebP compresses better at the same quality, which is the whole reason it exists. PNG is lossless and cannot match it on size. Convert when you need compatibility or an unaltered copy, not when you need a smaller file.

Can I convert many files at once?

Yes. Drop in as many as you like and download them together. Everything runs on your machine, so the limit is your memory rather than an upload cap.

Is transparency kept?

Yes. Both formats carry an alpha channel, so transparent areas stay transparent. Converting to JPG instead would fill them with a solid colour.

Is any quality lost?

Nothing is added or removed by this step: PNG is lossless. If the original WebP was saved with lossy compression, those artefacts are copied faithfully, because they are already part of the image.
